The rules for using TruthLayer's website and (at launch) apps and extension.
Last updated: October 2026
TruthLayer is a nonprofit media-literacy assistant. It analyzes videos you submit and returns structured evidence — transcripts, frames, extracted claims, source references, and persuasion signals — to help you evaluate content yourself. TruthLayer is not a fact-checking authority, a content moderator, or a substitute for professional advice.
Analysis outputs are generated with the assistance of automated systems (speech transcription, visual analysis, language models) that are fallible. Transcripts may contain errors; claims may be misattributed; sources may be incomplete. TruthLayer does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any analysis. You remain responsible for your own judgment and decisions.
TruthLayer does not provide medical, legal, financial, or emergency advice. If an analysis touches on health, safety, self-harm, or legal matters, consult a qualified professional. Crisis resources shown in the product are informational starting points, not counseling.
You agree not to:
You retain all rights to content you submit. By submitting a video URL for analysis, you grant TruthLayer a limited license to download, process, and cache the resulting evidence artifacts for the purpose of providing the service (including serving cached results to other users who analyze the same public video).
If you believe an analysis is wrong, you may flag it for review. Substantiated corrections are used to improve the system, and aggregate appeal outcomes are published. See our methodology page for details.
The service is provided "as is." We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We aim for reliable operation but do not warrant uninterrupted availability.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, TruthLayer and its directors, officers, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service — including decisions you make based on an analysis. Total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim (for free-tier users: $0).
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced on this page and, for app users, in-app before taking effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
